Making A Report of Serious Police Misconduct
All Information provided to the Commission is confidential
Complaint Form
When your written complaint is received, it will be assessed by the Commission to determine if it involves serious police misconduct. If so, it may be investigated by the Commission. However, as the Commission is only a small agency, it cannot investigate every complaint. The Commission investigates only the most serious misconduct and those matters in which there is a significant public interest involved. If the Commission decides not to investigate your complaint, even though it is about serious police misconduct, another course of action will be suggested to you which may include referral to the NSW Police Force and/or to the NSW Ombudsman.
If an investigation into a complaint about serious police misconduct is carried out by the NSW Police Force, the Commission may decide to oversee that investigation and provide guidance, as determined appropriate.
If your complaint is to be investigated by the Commission you may be advised accordingly. You may also be advised of the outcome of the investigation. It is unlikely that the Commission will let you know what is happening during the course of the investigation, as to do so may affect the progress of the investigation.
Should you have further documentation in support of your complaint, please post to:
GPO Box 3880
Sydney NSW 2001
Please advise in the 'Details of Incident' field that further information will be forwarded to the Commission.
If your complaint is assessed as not being about serious police misconduct, you will be notified and the complaint may be referred to the Office of the NSW Ombudsman.
